Young Lee Brickey is the kind of son that any mother would hope for…almost. He is bright, easy going, an apt student, a hard worker, and a thief. Actually, he is more of an opportunist than a thief Things just land in his lap, and he keeps them. Working after school and on weekends at his father’s garage and towing service, he has more than ample opportunity for things to drop into his lap. As a high school senior in a small Missouri town and with a father who remembers what it was like to be young, Lee has been given the kind of freedom unheard of in the early 1960s; the kind of freedom that most of his peers can only dream of.
The worst that could ever happen, he thought, would be getting caught in the back seat with a six-pack and the daughter of the man holding the flashlight. He quickly learns that the world outside of Doubling, Missouri can be a cruel and deadly place when four pounds of heroin are dropped into his lap at the scene of a fatal accident. Realizing that he is over his head, he turns the merchandise over to the local law. The size and circumstance of the find attracts the attention of state and federal agencies, which set up a foolproof sting operation using Lee as bait.
When he starts classes at a nearby state college, Lee realizes that he can no longer slam through life with abandon because a commitment to his father has to be honored. The class work is harder and more complex than high school, and so are the girls, but both are much more interesting and exciting. As Lee fumbles and stumbles his way into maturity, he also goes from frying pans into fires at an ever-increasing rate.

A Fine Kettle of Fish edition by Lou Bradshaw Jeanette Schaefer Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

As storytelling goes Mr Bradshaw is on par with m.twain, telling it like it was back in the 60s as twain did in his era.it was enjoyable, hard to put down, taking me back to my teenage years, and the iconic 327 "57" Chevy.as with all good story tellers the story can be somewhat true.

humorous ,entertaining,captivating,
.
I just like good clean reading. I grew up during this time so a lot of time things made sense to me. Another good job by this writer. I look forward to the next one.
Lou Bradshaw is one of my favorite authors. Every once in a while you connect with a main character and really pull for him. That was the case with Bricky in A Fine Kettle of Fish. Great story, terrific characters with plenty of humor and suspense

The other Lou Bradshaw books I've read have been westerns and I highly recommend those as well. You'll pull for his main characters in those as well.
I was reminded of some of the antics we would pull at that age. Young men full of testosterone and young girls developing into women. I was somewhat surprised about the connection with the drug gang but very pleased with the results. I really enjoyed the book and would find myself laughing out loud at times.
This is a fun book. As I grew up in a small town as our hero did, I can identify with many of the activities that our hero had.

I really enjoy Bradshaw's Westerns. Didn't know what to expect in this book. It turned out to be excellent. Couldn't put it down. Disappointed when I was done. It would make an excellent movie.
Lou Bradshaw is one of my favorite authors. I have read quite a few of his Ben Blue books and never have been disappointed in them. This one is not a western but has the main character who is a teen in 1960 telling the story. It is humorous, a good mystery book, and just all around good story.
Unbelievable. I don't know where the author came up with the story. It makes me think it is more truth then fiction. A book you can't put down until you have read it cover to cover.
